Design-Build Process

Design buildUnless you already know exactly what you want and can afford to pay for it, the design phase of construction is crucial to your satisfaction with the end product.  Considerable time and effort is required both from us and from you in order to make your dream home come alive.

Preliminary Design Information

The first thing we do is work to figure out what you are looking for in a home.  We encourage you to spend time thinking about the way you use your space and the features that are important to you in a home.  We encourage you to look at lots of home plans, books, magazines, and websites to get an idea of what you would like your house to look like and what features you hope to incorporate.  You may wish to visit houseplans.com where you can  browse thousands of designs.

Do you need a single level?  Do you spend all your time in the kitchen?  Do you entertain?  Do you have children who need their own spaces?  The answers to these and other questions help guide us in designing the perfect home for your family. We have created a  Design-Build questionnaire to be downloaded and completed by you and then brought to the first design meeting.

Narrowing the choices

At our first meeting we go over the completed questionnaire and discuss which elements can be incorporated in the final product.  We  look to get a good idea of your desires and also what your budget may allow before the design process can truly begin. We can discuss the pricing of various things on your wish list and help you decide which are the most important before moving to the actual design phase.

Design Phase

Now that we have a pretty good idea about you, the way you live, and the home you desire, we can go to the drawing board.  We  prepare a preliminary rough home plan and pricing estimate to be discussed at the second meeting.  We will then go back and forth making changes until you are 100% satisfied with both the design and the price.

Sign on the Dotted Line

Once you have finalized the design and agreed on the contract price, we sign the construction contract and begin work as soon as town-permitting (and financing) allows.

Stay involved

We encourage our clients to stay involved with the project and are always happy to have you visit the site.  We do a lot of the work in-house rather than hiring different sub-contractors for each aspect of the project.  We hope that you will stop by your site often and get to know our crew.   Because our crew works on each project from start to finish, we all get attached to it and start to view our clients as friends.  We hope the feeling is mutual.

Details, Details,

Throughout the construction process, there are many decisions for you to make and we do not insist that you make them right at the beginning.  Sometimes it helps to see the house built before choosing your paint colors for example.

While we strive to be as thorough as possible in the design, sometimes a client’s preferences or priorities can change.  If this is the case, we are happy to work with you to make any additions or changes you would like.

Moving Day – Home Sweet, Green, Home

Finally, your home is complete and you are ready to move in.  We hope you enjoy your new home and are 100% satisfied with every aspect of the design and construction process.
